Networking on fire, last night message on beaten down queens was on dot.Read this;

Big Picture: One of the brightest thinkers around was also one of the least well-dressed. Without the benefit of pinstripes or hair gel, Jerry Nelson, rumpled analyst for the $2-billion pension fund Columbia Partners in Washington, D.C., said generalists like himself came to "deepen their mastery" of companies they own but don't understand. A key theme of the week, he said, was growing evidence of a revolution in computation, communication and information that has led U.S. companies to align themselves with allies vertically via extranets. This is making software-hardware-network combines like Netscape/Sun Microsystems/3Com sometimes look like Japanese "keiretsu," or symbiotically integrated webs of competitors. The difference: In Japan, companies are handicapped by the cultural inhibition against any one firm sticking its neck out to succeed. In the U.S., he said, "each company is free to reach egomaniacal levels of excellence."
