The Maui Beach Cafe in Westwood has now been open for a week. It is incredible. The food is wonderful, on the same level as the Cheesecake Factory. The decor is very nice, comparable to, but not as high tech as the Rainforest Cafe. With lava lamps suspended from the ceiling, a neon wave which changes colors throughout the night, tvs showing surfing videos, and lots of palm trees and sharks, the Maui Beach Cafe is a really fun place to eat. The Westwood location is located about a block south of the UCLA campus, and should draw large crowds once the school is aware of its existence. The prices are definitely not cheap, but the food is so good it really doesn't matter! I started off with the Tea Smoked Duck Potstickers which were really tasty, had the Nori-Seared Scallops and Soba Noodles, which was spicy but were the best scallops I've had in a long time, and finished with the Dark Chocolate Lave Cake, a small but very rich combo of warm cake and vanilla ice cream. The smoothies were really good, and they offer many other foods including pizzas, salads, noodles, meat dishes, seafood, sandwiches and tacos. A very interesting combination of Asian, Hawaiian, and Californian food. I was very pleased with my visit and while it does not have the theme of RAIN or the large porions and variety of CAKE, this restaurant is very nice and would be a very good investment if they go public
