My choice for Bay Area's best restaurant is Michaelangelo's in San Franncisco. It serves Italian food in a cozy atmosphere surrounded with beautiful paintings. it is on Columbus Avenue in Little Italy.
Food is excellent, house wine is good. Daily catch is usually my best bet. Other pastas etc. are also excellent. Prices are moderate, around $45-55 for a couple including drinks, tax etc. Service is good and usually fast. They serve bread and olives to start and oranges or cookies after meal to every table.

IMO, if great food and a nice laid-back atmosphere is what you are looking for, this is the place.

PS: Most evenings and certainly on weekends, there is a waiting line at the door which can take 30+ minutes. No reservations.
