LARGO, Md., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Socrates Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: SOCT), a Washington, D.C. area broad based information technology and software development company, announced the appointment of three new directors as part of the Company's ongoing strategic plan to reorganize and expand management capabilities. The new directors are:
JEAN H. SISCO: After receiving an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a distinguished executive career in international trade and human resources in the retail industry, Ms. Sisco is a principal of Sisco Associates, a Washington, D.C. international management consulting firm that she founded in 1979. Ms. Sisco is currently a corporate director of Textron (Parent Corporation of Cessna Aircraft and Bell Helicopter), Newmont Mining Corporation, Chiquita Brands International, The Neiman Marcus Group, American Funds Tax Exempt Series I, and K-Tron International, Inc. She has been appointed by three U.S. Presidents to serve on Presidential Advisory Committees on Vocational Training and International Trade. Ms. Sisco is also the Chairman of the Center for Board Leadership, a director of the National Association of Corporate Directors, a trustee of the Corina Higginson Trust, the Treasurer of Reading Is Fundamental, a member of the International Women's Forum and Chairman of the International Women's Forum's Leadership Foundation. Active throughout her life in government, business and civic affairs, Ms. Sisco was the first woman director of the Washington, D.C.'s Metropolitan Washington Board of Trade and was President of the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Washington Ballet. Ms. Sisco was inducted into the Washington D.C. Business Hall of Fame in 1994, received the "Breaking the Glass Ceiling" award in 1995, and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1997.
JAMES H. MILLER: Mr. Miller currently serves as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Medical Technologies, Inc., a public company (Nasdaq: MTEC) that is an international leader in providing technology solutions for medicine in early intervention home healthcare and emergency medical technologies, especially the development of auto-injector drug delivery systems and emerging products in the cardiopulmonary care market. Mr. Miller was a senior executive with Beecham Laboratories, Frank J. Corbet, Inc. and Abbott Laboratories. He has also served as Vice President for the National Security Industrial Association, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Defense Policy Advisory Committee on Trade (an organization of CEOs from various defense contractors who advise the Secretary of Defense and the Ambassador for Trade on major global issues), and as Vice President and Trustee for the National Security Industrial Association. Mr. Miller is a two-time winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Life Sciences Health Care in 1998 for successfully leading Meridian Medical Technologies, Inc. to international prominence in global medical device and drug delivery systems. GEORGE COWAN: Dr. Cowan was appointed to the Board shortly after being appointed as Executive Vice President of the Company for corporate development and investment relations. He is an experienced technology executive and business development professional with a proven track record in assisting public and private computer technology and software companies realize their business and financial potentials. Over the past 22 years, Dr. Cowan has served in various capacities as Chairman, CEO, President, Chief Operating Officer, Operations Director and Project Managerfor start up companies such as Verdix Corporation (which he took public in 1983) and MicroNEX, Inc. as well as industry leaders such as Burroughs Corporation and Computer Sciences Corporation. Immediately prior to joining the company, Dr. Cowan was a marketing, sales and technology consultant performing "Routes to Market" workshops for IBM Corporation in Latin America. Verdix Corporation, co-founded by Dr. Cowan who also served as its Chairman and CEO, developed commercially available compilers for the Ada programming language to address Life Cycle cost problems associated with software development throughout the DOD.
