Sage Launches Two Highly Integrated Digital Interface Display Processors for the Flat Panel Market
  - Jaguar TX and TS integrated DVI display processors provide ActiveColor Management technology in single board solution reducing system cost -
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2000-- Sage Inc. (NASDAQ:SAGI - news), a leading provider of digital display processors for consumer technology and PC-display products, today announced two highly integrated digital display controllers optimized for digital video interfaces (DVI) offering true plug-n-play capability. The Jaguar TX and TS, with ActiveColor Management(TM) technology and integrated TMDS receiver with HDCP, will target the XGA and SXGA flat panel market segments respectively. The new display processors provide a single board design, reducing system cost while allowing design flexibility for flat panel manufacturers.
Implementation of products compliant with the DVI standard enables manufacturers to immediately save costs by eliminating digital-to-analog conversion functions and eventually eliminating analog technology completely. Digital displays provide sharper, more realistic visual experiences and automatically adjust to optimal resolution levels. Intel developed the HDCP specification to protect digital content transmitted/received using DVI interfaces. This allows secure digital video content to be delivered for PC monitors, DVD players, set-top boxes and digital TVs. HDCP has gained extreme support from PC manufacturers, monitor manufacturers, consumer electronics manufacturers and Hollywood Studios. By integrating the Jaguar TX and TS into new monitors, manufacturers can guarantee HDCP compliance for digital content.
``In the past year, DVI has emerged as the de-facto standard for interfacing digital displays and computers. The addition of Intel's High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is now enabling a new class of robust content protected interfaces for digital displays in the PC market, as well as next generation consumer displays,'' said Mark Waring, DVI Strategic Initiative Manager, Intel Corporation.
``Sage's introduction of the integrated TMDS Jaguar TX and TS products provides a cost effective and feature rich solution for flat panel monitor manufacturers,'' said Chandra Reddy, CEO of Sage. ``The emergence of the DVI standard is gaining momentum and our integrated TMDS receiver with HDCP compliance provides our customers with an easy migration to their next generation of flat panel monitors.''
Jaguar TX and TS Highlight Features
  Integrated TMDS Receiver with HDCP
Normal parallel digital video data is sent from a host graphic controller and converted. The converted serialized data is transmitted using a TMDS layer, which contains the total data packet consisting of the frequency and the red, green, and blue color signals. The function of the TMDS receiver is to take the serialized data and transform it back to the parallel format so it can be recognized by the flat monitor. The advantage of this process allows data to be transmitted over a longer length while controlling data loss.
  ActiveColor Management
The Jaguar TX and TS integrate the industry's first ActiveColor Management technology. It allows users to control a specific color tone without affecting other color tones. The integration of ActiveColor Management provides flexibility, enabling an end-user to control the monitor colors independent of the source. ActiveColor Management is useful in video because video sources come from a variety of media with different color characteristics.
In addition to the primary features, the Jaguar TX and TS provide a glueless interface to industry standard video decoders and allow CCIR656 input capability along with YUV to RGB conversion. Advanced features include on-chip deinterlacing support and video window detection, image expansion and reduction, upscale and downscale up to SXGA, and automatic detection of changes in incoming resolution and refresh rate.
  Pricing & Availability
Available in a 144-pin LQFP package, the Jaguar TX and TS are both currently sampling and will be available in volume quantities in December 2000. Pricing is available upon request.
