This is an excellent subject you brought up because it is a perfect example of how a story, but not the whole story, gets around. I don't blame you for being concerned, but you need not be. While the "news" has covered this subject as NC vs. Wintel, the fact is that Intel will not be as affected as a Microsoft. Last week I saw two news releases that quoted Ellison ( CEO from Oracle ) as saying that down the road, the processor of choice for such a device would be a Pentium. Unfortunately, I don't have the exact reference to these articles. Initially, the Oracle NC is using the ARM microprocessor. Business week had an article that painted a rather bleek picture for Wintel. What is interesting, they said that "missing among the initial list" of proponents for the NC was Intel and Microsoft. The key word is "initial". Though Business week did'nt mention it, Intel, though pessimistic about the NC, is open to the idea and is "unoficially" on the list. The only ligitimate concern if the NC does take off is that Intel's margins may be affected since the devices will not need the more profitable Pentiums.
