Distributed power generation technology is finally catching up and should be going mainstream within the next few years IMHO.

A couple of years ago I met up with a guy I used to go to high school with, we got to talking over a few drinks. He was a maintenance technician for the big electrical power generators. Electricity in Northern Alberta is generated by burning coal to heat boilers and run generator turbines. The boilers are older than their projected lifespan and they continue to run at the physical limits. As far as I heard at that time there are no plans to replace them?

And that is why the world needs distributed power generation. I can't see us using any less electricity!
