Hi Glenn, I'm trying to figure out Rainbow media... to tell you the truth I'm baffled...
the company says it's not a company but a ????
How can a stock be outright owned by another 2 companies?
Cablevision 77.5% and NBC 22.5%
( see rainbow-media.com ) so If an *individual investor* buys stock in Rainbow, what are they actually buying?

I don't understand tracking stocks!

>>>On March 30, 2001 Rainbow Media Group (RMG) launched as a tracking stock of Cablevision Systems Corporation. A tracking stock is a separate class of common stock that reflects the performance of a particular set of assets, a division or a subsidiary of a company. Holders of the Rainbow Media Group tracking stock are shareholders of Cablevision, not of the businesses the shares are intended to track. The RMG stock is designed to unlock what the Company believes is unrecognized value within its considerable programming and entertainment assets. <<<
