AUSTIN, Texas -- Intel Corp. announced an agreement with the Mexican government to make low-cost PCs available to 300,000 teachers in Mexico by the end of the year.

The systems, designed by Intel, were unveiled last month in Mexico as part of an Intel initiative called Discover the PC. The systems are designed for markets in developing countries.

No financial terms were disclosed. But Intel officials have estimated the price of the systems to be about $300 each.

Paul Otellini, Intel's chief executive officer, disclosed the agreement with Mexico during his speech at the World Congress on Information Technology here.

Intel said it also plans to extend teacher training to 400,000 teachers in Mexico through the Intel Teach to the Future program by 2010.
