Ventritex announced on June 13th that they have filed a premarket Approval Supplement with the FDA seeking marketing clearance for its CONTOUR implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)--the smalles and thinnest ICD developed for patients with abnormally rapid heart rythms.

I personally bought the stock today at $19.00. I know first hand what this small and thin ICD can do to enhance ones life. My father has an implanted ICD from ventritex (older model). The lifesaving defribrillator hear wears is the size of a deck of cards and just as thick with square corners. It is very bulky and implanted in the side of his stomach which constantly protrudes and is noticable, but it does the job and has given him a longer life. This new device which is looking for approval is 15 millimeters thin, 57 cubic centimeters in volume and with a contoured case having rounded edges. The Contour ICD is designed to provide enhanced patient comfort and facilitate implantation in the petoral (chest) region.
Two implants of the Contour device were recently implanted in patients in Germany, the smalles, thinnest defibrillator implanted in a patient thus far. It also offers the highest energy output (38 joules delivered) and the most electrogram storage capability (16 minutes) available in any pectoral ICD> Pioneered by Ventritex, stored electrograms give physicians a record of cardiac activity before, during and after each arrhythmic episode, improving patient diagnosis and management.

Great news for patients with irregular heart beats. The stock will only go up from here.
