Vegetarians and their even more enlightened virtue signalling brethren vegans, as well as the brutally virtue signalling Moslem murderers, would prefer a total ban on pork, not just a tariff. Jews are also disinclined to eat pigs.

I don't know what the reasons are for the Moslem and Jew rejection of pigs while tucking in to lamb and most other animals. The vegans think of it as an ethical matter.

That's obviously not the case for Moslems as they'll happily head hack infidels and pigs are certainly infidels. Maybe Jews and Moslems are concerned about diseases such as trichinosis, rather than ethics, and would cheerfully kill pigs to feed them to cats and dogs.

I wonder if they would eat dog as is done in China. And what if the dog was raised on pork?

Pigs don't seem to be like cows in India which wander around town being fed by people who buy a hand full of food for the cow. I have not seen pigs trotting around Mecca during the haj being tended by happy Moslems.

I guess it's a nutrition and health matter.

I agree that bacon is a hazard to health when loaded with nitrites. Decades ago, due to my oil industry knowledge, I decided that frying bacon and eating it was a road to an early grave.

When oil or bacon or other organic molecules are heated to 180C in air there are many chemical reactions that form carcinogens ... oxidation, cracking, polymerization. The preservative nitrites when combined with amines in stomachs form nitrosamines. Hey presto cancers such as colon cancer.

In the late 1970s BP stopped using nitrites in cutting oils because the machining process causes air borne mists which were inhaled, coughed up and swallowed and formed nitrosamines in stomachs.

That's how nasty the industrial world was back in the day.

It's a testament to immune systems that I'm even alive. I was a spray painter for a few months and coughed up phlegm stained with the yellow paint I was using to paint big rubbish bins. The lead, and evil solvents must have been wreaking havoc. No wonder life expectancy was low earlier in the 20th century.

A friend recently died from asbestos he inhaled in the 1970s.

So take it easy on the bacon. Maybe have a leg of lamb = free with a Globalstar phone as I recall. I could wear a leotard and sell heaps on highway 15.

Vegetarians should be mindful that humans have to eat animal parts to get vitamin B12 without which they will be dead as their brains will fail. Depression is the symptom. Meditation, mindfulness and other hippie bullshit doesn't fix a misfiring brain which is shorting due to missing myelin.

Shellfish are loaded with vitamin B12 so that's a very ethical way to get B12 as they don't have a face or brain.

But Jews won't eat shellfish. I guess because they can also be poisonous as is the case now in NZ due to an algal infection that produces neurotoxins. A whole family a few years ago were seriously ill but survived because they ate lots of tuatuas.
