Non-voting Fed president Moskow is speaking on the economic outlook in Chicago. Moskow sees the growth prospects as bright as signs of recovery appear and the manufacturing sector appears to have bottomed out. For his Midwest Fed district the Chicago Fed president sees auto profitability as the largest concern as the timing and intensity of a capital investment rebound remains quite uncertain. The bottom line catching the headlines is Moskow's view that the recovery may very well be under way. And while the direction of the economic indicators mesh with Moskow's view, the strength of the upturn continues to be the real question before the Fed policymakers.
