JUN 1, 1998, M2 Communications - Latest Wireless Network Management System to Be Based on ObjectStore Object Design, the leading object database company, has announced that Ericsson Communications Inc. through its Operations Support Systems Product Unit in Canada, has selected the ObjectStore database management system to support its latest wireless network management system in order to better serve its worldwide customers. ObjectStore is providing a multiuser, scalable, Java-based solution for storing and managing network elements and components within a wireless network. ObjectStore was selected for its ability to store object and component data without requiring data mapping or translation code. Its Cache-Forward architecture and native support for Java were also critical factors that have allowed Ericsson to boost the performance and scalability of the system.
The system, originally built using relational technology, was later migrated to a component-based, multitier architecture due to excessive time spent by Ericsson writing mapping code at the expense of developing end-user features.
Benoit Gendron, manager, strategic product for the Operations Support Systems at Ericsson in Montreal, said, "Our latest system will enable our worldwide customers, wireless networks operators, to centrally store and manage information, in ObjectStore, on a constantly changing array of wireless network components. This will help them to better operate and maintain their networks."
"We are very pleased to have been selected by one of the leaders in the telecommunications industry as they upgrade their wireless network management system," said Justin Perreault, chief operating officer at Object Design. "Ericsson and other leading telecommunications companies are rapidly adopting component-based computing for developing distributed multitier systems. They are selecting ObjectStore for those systems due in large part to its unique Cache-Forward architecture that delivers unmatched performance and scalability in distributed environments." |
