MikeM already told you his take on g.lite and I concur. G.lite was supposed to help accelerate the deployment of DSL by being splitterless. It did not. Full rate DSL could be provisioned with the use of microfilters which is what ALA fostered and led the industry. Full rate DSL will be more significant for the ILECs with the upcoming VoDSL which will be a major source of their new business model.

WSTL is eclectic with respect to full rate or g.lite. They have solutions for either. Most of their current equipment is provisioned with Virata solutions. Their wirespeed modems deployed by the ILECs are capable of full rate DSL. The significance of WSTL is their contracts and relationship with the ILECs. These are the major implementers of DSL. WSTL has contracts with Verizon (Bell Atlantic and GTE) and SBC. This IS the major current world market for DSL. In addition their products are sold through FUJITSU which has a major contract with British Telecom for both CO dslams and CPE, which it shares with ALA. Rumor is that they will also be providing GTE as well with CO equipment. In addition WSTL provisions for ISPs and I am sure will get some of the business through Northpoint which is now majority owned by Verizon.

WSTL sells it CPE equipment via its website in the same manner DELL sold computers. In the majority of the cases the modems are provided by the ILECs.
