Good question. I don't know enough about Minn politics to opine very strongly, but this is my take.

As Captain Ed noted the Star-Tribune is a very, very left leaning paper that is known to severely slant their polls. Also note that the Star-Tribune didn't release their internals to their poll - a key indicator that they rigged this one worse than usual. That would indicate that the percentage of registered Republicans is much higher than the poll claims.

Another point to consider is that Captain noted that the state legislature was once strongly Republican, but lost some ground recently. That is typical of most states & also points to a high percentage of registered Repub's. That does not necessarily mean those folks are all registered Republican. However, I wouldn't be surprised to learn they are the #1 Party by registration.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked to see the percentage of registered Independents to be close to par with registered Dem's & Repub's with an above average representation of Libertarians, Greens, etc.
