Tuesday's campaign round-up

Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* With former Rep. Virgil Goode making Virginia's presidential ballot as the Constitution Party's nominee, Mitt Romney's odds of winning the state just got a little more difficult.
* In Colorado, Public Policy Polling now shows President Obama narrowly leading Romney, 49% to 46%. The three-point lead is down from a six-point advantage a month ago.
* In Michigan, Public Policy Polling puts Obama's lead at seven points, 51% to 44%.
* In Ohio, Sen. Sherrod Brown's (D) new ad talks up his efforts on trade and China.
* On a related note, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is set to begin airing TV ads on Brown's behalf this week. The DSCC had already reserved airtime for the fall, but this is a new investment.
* Sean Spicer, communications director for the Republican National Committee, argued yesterday that Romney's "likability rating is extremely high." That's remarkably untrue.
* In Florida's closely-watched U.S. Senate race, PPP shows incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) leading Rep. Connie Mack IV (R), 45% to 38%. Nelson's lead now appears to be growing steadily.
* And Priorities USA Action, a Democratic super PAC, isn't bringing in the kind of money its Republican rivals collect, but it raised $10 million in August, which is a record for the group. |
