I sent the reporter this Email:

How can an event that you say "drew several hundred people," which you say "was billed in advance as Washington's largest demonstration ever on global warming." be "unclear whether that turned out to be accurate?"

I know you believe in "Global Warming," but this is really "spinning," even for you.

And he answered me! Miracles never cease. I think his last sentence shows that he knew he had blown it.

Thanks very much for reading my story and taking the time to email me. The question in our minds that day was not how many people were at the rally, but whether there had been previous events on the Mall dedicated solely to the issue of climate change. At deadline, we had not been able to determine
if there had been any comparable events, or what size they might have been, so the best thing was to say what was true: it was unclear.

Thanks again,
DF
