Don: This is the first time I am responding to a note on this thread. I like what you have written. I worked in the Far East for IBM for Five years from 1983 - 1988. During that period the PC business was never a big deal for IBM in Japan. NEC was the big guy in Japan with a market share of over at least 50%. As far as market revenue was concerned, Japan #1, Australia/New Zealand #2, Korea #3, Taiwan #3,Hong Kong and Singapore were #4(?) Japan is still #1, Australia/New Zealand probably is #2. However, I believe IBM Greater China (Taiwan/Hongkong/China) is now probaly #3 with Korea being probably #4. In the Forbes article, the author of that article mentioned that IBM is using borrowed money to buy back shares!! I cannot believe it! What is IBM doing with its yearly 5 Billion cash flow!? Also, the ML guy downgraded IBM's 4Q by six cents/share purely based on the Yen/$ conversion rate and PC sales. I cannot believe that IBM PC sales in Japan is a big swinger one way of the other!
