I'm long AVTX and like it for the reasons you mention. However, keep in mind that the Berlin volume and quotes are fairly useless. The shorting can take place intra firm, intra agency, through the process called "desking." These outfits often have complicated series of arbitrage transactions to hide from US regulators and the volume often says "0."

I haven't followed the quotes from Berlin, but there should be no difference in real market between that and the US quote after adjustment for currency. There is no separate German class of shares I believe. So, it's the same shares, just traded in two markets.
