By this time next year, people are going to see why not only Gresham such a great investment and great timing, but Silterra or whatever is going to be a great move too.

My prediction since one year ago - in the next downturn, there will be upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs are guys with fab capacity in a capacity glut market and no working designs. Upstairs are guys with the working SOC designs and can name their own prices, both purchasing prices for wafers and selling prices for final products.

Translated, IP is not only going to make good money in this upturn, but will also make money in the next downturn.

On the subject of upturns and how far we are into the cycle - we are still very early. Nobody is making money yet. So far we have just seen the sales increase but all that is going towards covering fixed costs. Wait till 0.18um ie. Q1 '00 or so when 0.18um comes into play. The same $10 0.25um product that cost $5.00 to manufacture will get ported to 0.18um. Result will be a $8 or even $10 product that cost $2.25 to make - makes a drastic difference to the bottom line.
