Per,

IBM, LU, NEC, and TOSH are absolutely LSI's main competition today in the traditional ASIC marketplace. IBM especially has been a very tough competitor in the high end. TOSH is a superb competitor across the board, and LU and NEC are very competitive but in more targeted areas. I know that LU and IBM are also customers of LSI's but LU and IBM are both probably in the top 5 in the world in semiconductor consumption. As a result, they buy a lot of stuff from a lot of different folks.

If you find this hard to believe, buy a Quantum SCSI disk and open it up. You will find a LU ASIC (not a standard part) inside as the SCSI controller. Purchase a workstation from Sun and open it up and look at all the LU content. In about a year, I'll be able to give you some really good IBM examples (as they have been successful for a shorter period of time).
