If you include Merced, it's going to be huge. SUNW has a joint
venture going with 1 or 2 other hardware vendors to port Solaris
to Merced. Solaris7 is already 64-bit ready & SUNW was the
first to announce the Merced deal with Intel.

Be that as it may, bear in mind that Merced is not going to be
the RISC-killer Intel/HWP thought. Chip co-developer HWP
admitted as much late last year when they announced the
development of another chip (McKinley) that surely will be a RISC-killer. However, it isn't slated for the market for
another 3-5 years. No wonder Lew Platt lost his job.

If you exclude Merced, Solaris on PC's has never been a very robust
market niche, and with the introduction of Linux, won't do any better.
I would say that this is due to the lack of personal productivity
apps that are typically used on the PC.
