Dear Wayne,

The troops weren't armed. They had blanks and blank firing adaptors. If they were expecting hostile fire they would have been issued with live ammo and been give rules of engagement.

When ever we were going to have a live fire exercise as part of a landing it would normally start after the High Water Mark. We would come out of the tracks or landing craft like "John Wayne" and then move up ON LINE to an ammo distribution point. Units would move out in lanes on line shooting at targets in front of them. Phase lines would be used to regroup the lines until you came to the end of the range.

Normally only the officers would have some pistol ammo and the MP's would have their shot guns and side arms.

This sounds like a screw up by the host country. You don't issue live ammo to Marines unless you want them to shoot someone or something. These boys are not Peace Keepers. They are there to knock your dick in the dirt. They are going to be mightily pissed off by this chicken shit shooting when all they had was blanks.

Stand by to F**k them ALL but nine. 6 for pall bearers: 2 to carry the Colors and 1 to count cadence!!
