Ms. Michelle Harris,

Also I am waiting for a boxmaker to really get behind Solaris. Is this happening? The unix vendors can't manufacture cost effectively at the low end (well anywhere really)

I don't see any boxmaker getting behind Solaris except for Sun. I've worked on 3 different vendors version of Unix. All versions of Unix I know are different.

The best Unix/hardware I've worked on was Digital (now Compaq) Alpha. Their Unix was much better and only had some of the common Unix problems. Didn't crash as much as the others. In addition, their version was the only one, at the time, that could take advantage of the 64 bit configuration. This is important if you want to run a very large database configuration. Most Unix's needed drivers to address storage greater than 10 gigabytes. DEC unix could address Terabytes without drivers.

The Alpha box was the fastest I've seen. It was much faster than any Sun box I worked on and a great deal lower cost. The largest Sun box that I worked on for any length of time was the SUN 6000.

Becareful on what some person will post here about Sun. They are posting PR with no actual experience.

Thank You

JK
