<<Unfortunately I suspect the number is lower. Remember no one calls it slavery anymore. So they can condemn slavery elsewhere while defending some unique cultural condition of their own.>>
Other than perhaps in an isolated area or two of the world, I dont know of any countries that have legalized slavery and call it a unique tradition. That may actually be the case, I dont know.I am not denying that horrors such as slavery exist, I do not agree with the implication that it exists as anything more than as an aberration and minute presence within the context of all of humanity.
Again, that is not to say that there arent people taking advantage of others all over the world. That is an obvious fact of todays society at large. However, we are discussing the degree to which these various atrocities (of which slavery is only one aspect)exist in direct to which they have existed historically, and wheather or not that constiutes proof that soul's of humanity are evolving in a positive manner.
My contention, is that it is necessary to look at the behavior of humanity through much larger blocks of time, like you would old growth trees or mountains, and not year to year, or even decade by decade. Much like an individuals personal life, humanity can go through periods of ups and downs, growth and regression. However, when viewed over a larger period of time, I believe that the growth is much more obvious.(IMO)
