EVIL: This one-minute video cost 5 young girls their lives in Pakistani honor killings

The Washington Post details a horrific story of young women who were the victims of honor killing in Pakistan, and it was over one very innocuous short video that went viral on social media.
In 2010, this video was recorded and published:
The village believed that this brought great dishonor upon them, so the local Muslim cleric ordered them all killed. They were dragged away by their own families, locked up, tortured and finally murdered. The bodies were buried and forgotten.

After the girls were disposed of, several brothers of the boy were also caught and killed. The rest of the family, including Kohistani, fled the area.
There things stood for more than a year. No crimes were reported, and no one came to investigate. Kohistani, a college graduate from one of the area’s wealthier families, said he repeatedly approached local and provincial officials, reporting the killings and seeking protection, but was chided for opposing the jirga’s verdict.
It’s been six years and what actually happened is only now being discovered and reported, but it looks like another horrific case of “honor killings.” I’m not of the mind that all Muslim societies are the same – there are a lot of tribal and local customs that insinuate themselves into their expressions of Islam. But there are too many examples like this one to be considered a coincidence.
