His son Stanley plays for the Giants. Cardinals' broadcaster Mike Shannon, a teammate of Javier's on those great Cardinals' teams of the '60s, tells a great story of Javier being picked off second base in a game against Houston. The Astros' shortstop was Julio Gotay, a fellow Latin American, and he told Javier something that caused him to jump 3 feet in the air, at which time Gotay tagged him out. When Javier came back to the dugout, his face was "white as a sheet". When his teammates asked him what happened, all Javier could say was "No mas! No mas! Voodoo, man! Voodoo!" My grandmother knew Javier when he played here and he was a great guy. His other son is an MD in town. Maybe at Barnes, though I'm not sure. DScottD
