Doug, I listened to the CC and made this summary for anyone interested. I went away feeling OK, but realize there is little margin for error. Their next few launches need to be a success. Conferenerce call summary 9/1/98 11:30AM EST -Zenit failure cause by 2nd stage control computer failure -Failure was with Zenit hardware not SSL -Baikanoir delayed reporting failure to Loral for about 1 hour -Loss of 1 Zenit and 1 Soyuz built into business plan -Failure will cause 3-4 month delay for start of service to 3Q99 -Revised plan will have 36 satellites up by 5/99 -2 more months from 5/99 required to get sats in full orbit and start service=3Q99. -System will operate with 32 satellites, therefore service can tolerate 1 more failure and still start in 3Q99 -Will have 52 satellites in orbit by 12/99 -The new schedule is lower risk since only 4 sats per launch -32 sat system will have 3% busy+drop rate mainly at equator, will have same voice quality but slight reduced capacity -A new launch schedule has been planned globalstar.com -Option for 3 more Soyuz -Firm Delta commitment in 5/99 -Soyuz is very reliable launch vehicle, more so than Delta. Launch insurance premium is less for Soyuz than Delta confirming this. -Original plan made 64 sats, lost 12 now have 52. Need 48 for full constellation. -Cost impact not great, hardware cost impact 80-100mil -2 Zenits available if they want to use -Revenue for 1999 was 400mil now 100mil -2000 no revenue impact -The 8 sats that are in orbit are operating OK and exceed requirements. -4 ground stations are operating OK -Recent phone calls have been made OK Good night, Don
