But let's not beat this dead horse into dog meat...:-)

Don't want to do that either,

but...<g>

Well, she referred to it (mission accomplished)as a quote that was left out.

To demonstrate that Bush didn't claim that the mission was accomplished in his speech, Lucky presented a bunch of quotes from the speech, all saying other things. E argued that Lucky's stack of quotes didn't include one where he said that the mission had been accomplished. Then I supplied the money quote where Bush said "mission accomplished" but in other words.

That's what she was referring to when she spoke of quotes, the assortment of quotes supplied by Lucky, the assortment conspicuously missing the salient one.

Given the precision of language, I took it to mean what it said.

Given the medium and the fast reading that we all do, I am not surprised that some might come away with the impression that E had claimed that Bush said "mission accomplished." It would be easy enough to do.

But when you have the impression that someone says something and that someone says they didn't, then it makes sense to me to go back and examine if there is a plausible alternative explanation. In this case there is one. I, for one, don't insist that people said what I inferred that they said one they deny it and the alternative interpretation is plausible.
