OT: I'm certainly not a fan of life insurance for most, but I do carry a term policy as a safeguard for my house mortgage. I use a 10 year fixed rate term policy for this undertaking. Anyway, a few months ago(January) my then policy was up for renewal and as expected the insurance company (Travelers) was willing to extend the policy...jumping the rate from about $350 in yearly premium to approximately $2,400 in yearly premuim or I could apply for a new policy and undergo normal underwriting physical exams. I opted for the new policy...and physical exams. The good news is that I came back in good health and a rate of about $550 for my annual premium...so IMO this was a worthwhile effort in letting them get a sample of my blood.

Anyway, I got to thinking today about what happens to one's blood sample when given to an insurance company with the potential of them making a future payment to my wife, based on what my blood said.. I did a Google search on the question and found some very interesting data...and the now fact that we have a pretty good read on the human genome. The following is a link to a Senate hearing a few years back in which they heard from some of the major companies working in this area...some might find it as interesting as I did....
