Only a small portion of the SE, the Mojave dessert and surrounding areas I think, most gets wetter, also most of the Sahara and most other desserts get wetter.
Mojave is in the SW, not the SE. What is sticking in my brain is the dust bowl region and further east. IIRC, it is not down in Florida. However, I don't have any link handy.
Regarding the Sahara, that is one place I think the book 6-degrees might in fact be out to lunch. There is some data that the Sahara was moist only 10-15K years ago during a warmer period (not recalling the time period exactly), whereas this book (I've not read it only the reviews) claims that the N Africa would be in a world of hurt. However, the author supposedly used only peer reviewed papers, and he claims that his conclusions are on the conservative side of those papers. Further it is claimed he has lots of footnotes for each claim. So it would be interesting to see if one could track down claims specific to North Africa. If my library has the book, I will try.
It would be interesting to see if any of the reasonable climate models are projecting the Sahara to get more moist, and if not, why not.
IIRC, the SW of the USA is not expected to get wetter either, but again, I lack a link to a good paper for that. |
