Diplomacy. You start by not calling your allies "Old Europe". You cut the "with us or against us" rhetoric. You cajole and convince and barter behind closed doors. In essence, you act like an adult. Personally, I find Bush's rhetoric refreshing. The kind of "diplomacy" you're talking about is what led us to the mess in NK -- you know, where the US begged and caved and begged and caved. We might call it "Carter Diplomacy"...
