Speaking of bad 'hoods, I was talking to a guy that moved here from Houston recently. I've only been gone for 3 years, and the neighborhood I lived in is now a virtual warzone, not that it was particularly pleasant when I left. The apartments I lived in for four years off of Westheimer and Briar Forest has been turned into subsidized housing for Katrina refugees. The guy said there's a murder a week there now, up from the spotty weekend gunfire when I lived there. His mother had a house in the fairly nice neighborhoods nearby, and her home value dropped by half in six months between pre-sale appraisals. The Katrina refugees have turned the place into a hellhole.
