IBM had never been able to manufacture enough DRAM's to meet its own demand, so the falling price of DRAM has a mixed effect, not all bad, since the PC unit benefits. IBM also manufactures only very high end DRAM and storage, so they don't see the margin pressure that the commodity players do. Their DRAMs are worth more than spot market prices because of their speed, and their shrinks and linewidths also are ahead of the mean. Not to say they are immune, just a little privileged amongst the commoditized masses as a result of their leading technology.

INTC has been the world's largest chipmaker for some time, as I understand it. It can be seen by comparing the two companies' revenues and keeping in mind that 25% of IBM's revenues it services, about $3B/year is storage, a bunch more software and so on, whereas nearly 100% of INTC's revenue is Si.
