Carter was not the architect of ANY problems in the Middle East. On the contrary, he crafted the historic Camp David Accord. Carter was a huge peace-maker and problem-SOLVER.

If you are refering to the fall of the Shah and the hostage-taking, that was not something which had anything to do with Carter's policies, nor could he have stopped it. The Shah had been busy self-destructing for a decade before Carter came into power. You should read your history.

Reagan took over for Carter and did he do anything about Iran? No, just the opposite. He secretly armed them. AT least Carter didn't send anti-tank missiles to our enemies in Iran. And do you know why Reagan sent anti-tank missiles through that crook Ollie North to Iran? Becaause he was negotiating with terrorists, something he publicly stated he would never do. If you have a problem with Iran, look at Reagan's rightwing bunch. They emboldened the radicals there. Ditto Bush Sr. What did he do about Iran? Nothing. And Cheney did secret oil deals with Iran as CEO of Halliburton, which is illegal.

Carter gets a lot of blame for the blow-up in the Middle East, but real the fault lies with those who didn't want peace, and those who wanted carter to lose to Ronald Reagan in the election. Also, unless you believe Carter's hostage rescue mission was sabotaged, it was just bad luck. If Carter had reescued the hostages as planned he would have been seen as a great hero and probably re-elected.
