We weren't Iraq's "dad" then, or ever. Closer to being the "dad" of the world now, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War and all that stuff, but I thought you didn't like the concepts behind the National Security Strategy? Namely, if we're going to be blamed for everything anyway, let's make sure it all functions in a way that we find acceptable. Better to be hanged for a sheep than a lamb, as the saying goes. Or in plain English, if you're going to be blamed anyway, may as well enjoy yourself.
