hi gott re, "So I think these startup programs have a will of their own and need to be monitored" it is just so out of the ordinary that nav auto-protect would suddenly show up as disabled on my machine. i would never run my computers with nav auto-protect disabled, and to disable it accidentally would require about three successive clicks... not really in the realm of likely possibilities as far as accidents go. :) mark
