We are a republic (not a democracy) because the founding fathers didn't trust the people; they wanted a upper class stop loss in case the people got stupid. But in practicle terms, the electoral collage delegates will probably never go against the popular votes. And eliminating the electoral collage would eliminate potential problems. It at least makes more sense than a gay marriage amendment. John
