Dear Tom: I couldn't sleep last night. The Holy Spirit had me up all night. I guess it is good that this happened so early in the new millennium and the new century, and decade. So many Christians have an identity crisis, of which I know I am one. I have been a Christain 32 years so I know that others who have been a Christain not as long wonder just whom we are in Christ. In the parable of the prodigal son there are many different classes of people discussed. What is our class in Christ ? That is the question. How should we view ourselves in Christ.? What view of ourselves brings God the most glory ? And enables God to use us for His purposes. I am telling you the truth ! It has taken me all night and all morning to reach this conclusion. I speak for myself. The riotous son lived with harlots. The servants of the household did as they were instructed and had more than they could eat, but had few qualities to be perceived as "sons". Their heart was still not close to the "father". Too many Christians take on the servant role. Do as they are told. "Obedience is better than sacrifice".. Been there done that. Be faithful. Don't argue. Keep your mouth shut. Don't rock the boat. Then there is the older son....don't forget Christ was answering the "mummerings of the pharisees". Who did all the mummering.. the older son, right ? What was Christ trying to say. Only that the older son was the pharisee in the family. No sin there. The faithful one. Judgemental of the harlots. Didn't hang around with their kind. Hated it when anyone haves a good time. Forgive his brother. Better that his brother burn in hell . Right.!! So I've decided the happiest person at the party was the younger son. All his friends that received him. And the Father. The Father's happiness over the return of the lost son could not be lost over the older son that was such a stick in the mud. The Father was on a party high. So my conclusion. I'm going to view myself as a forgiven sinner. Nobody's servant. A prodigal son. But a Son. We I feel we have reason to 'party' in this place. There is a party being prepared for us here . I'm going to bring in the new millennium with about a three or four month 'party'. I'm shouting with joy over the people we will pray for in this new year. We will be having so much fun here there will not be time for anyone that comes to this party to be sick. Every need will be met by Our Father while this party continues. I feel that if the older brother would have had compassion for the sinners and harlots, could have rid himself of his jealousy of sinners, would have shown love and joy over the younger son's return that Father would have had a party 10 times as Big. So likewise if this is a revelation for any "older sons" ( again I speak for myself)( I repent before God and man for being such a stick in the mud in God's eyes) , or if a few other people can realize that somehow God's view of them is not quite what their own self image is ( like me , as I am speaking of myself ..then the party is going to continue for a long time in this place.........In Christ name Amen.
