"And Otinelli is a marketer?"

I consider him to be AMD's biggest asset...

Actually, Barrett is AMD's best friend. I had to laugh at the clip from the shareholder's meeting where he said no one had committed a "firing offense" by Intel's poor financial performance. Yeah, top management is ok, it's just a few thousand innocents who must pay. If anyone ought to be fired, it would be Barrett. He drove Intel into the ground with his vaunted acquisition strategy, soon to be unwound, and his capacity mismanagement and execution fumbles. Poor Otellini is simply the heir to Barrett's legacy.

So Barrett is Otellini's first line of defense. Looking at Intel's BoD, those two are the inside directors and of the other nine, three are educators, two are political types, one is a CEO who did get fired, and only the other three seem like successful business people. So it would be unlikely that this crowd would get it together to remove Barrett and leave Otellini unprotected. Ossification has set in and only time and weather can wear them down. The longer this goes on, the better for AMD.
