That certain moral principles in the Bible are also quite common among most civilizations is probably no coincidence. That Western law is a result of Western culture which is heavily influenced by the Bible clearly suggests that these principles are unlikely to be "removed".

The idea of "innocent until proven guilty" is, IMHO, a damn good right. If an individual is found guilty, then there will be a forfeiture of certain rights. Should those found guilty be stripped of all rights?

Let the punishment fit the crime. That's an interesting point, really. What are we trying to accomplish with justice? Retribution? Punishment? Negative reinforcement? Deterrence? Enforcing the right of a society? "An eye for an eye" is just rhetoric.
