Rally Monkey Walks Out of Contract Negotiations

(2002-10-30) -- The Anaheim Angels' Rally Monkey walked out of contract negotiations today, and no new talks have been scheduled.

The breakdown apparently came when team owners and Mr. Monkey failed to agree on two major issues--jumps per week, and merchandising percentages.

"When he first signed up for this gig, no one expected the Angels to win the World Series," said Mr. Monkey's agent. "Thousands of plush toys have been sold bearing my client's likeness, yet he has not received remuneration. Plus, the Angels are far too prone to falling behind, and thus requiring my client's services. It may look easy, but you try jumping up and down like that night after night."

"It's just another black eye for Major League Baseball," said one fan. "It's all about money. The owners are raking it in, and Rally Monkey is working like a dog, giving his all when our team needs it the most. He oughta at least get some kind of profit sharing incentive."
