Hi Dave, I've been talking to a friend about the idea of using the Ultra Bear fund in conjunction with UOPIX and the Idiot Wave. We're not very far along with my "test" of this strategy yet. It was really put into practice only after 9/11. I'd been working in the direction of a "switch" using the IW prior to that, but had been depending upon AIM as the general guide.

It's now my opinion that AIM's not the right management tool for this type of equity. I'm putting about half the total value available to invest into the UOPIX side of the equation. The remainder is still with ACG earning its happy 12% for now. I consider the ACG side of the account to be the ultimate cash reserve if the IW fails this time in predicting a near term rally.

I appreciate your suggestion. It had occurred to me that one might come up with a balance between the Ultra Bull and Ultra Bear funds. Possibly the IW's equity/cash ratio would be a good guide for that. Certainly if we'd been 75% into the Bear fund in March 2000 it wouldn't have hurt us!

Let me day dream about this for a few days........

Best regards, Tom
