Let me ask you something hypothetically: if you were a divorced father who had lost custody of your son, and were asked by the relevant authorities to turn him over to another family member, how long do you think local officials in your state would "negotiate" with you over the terms of the child's handover?

I think we both know the answer: 2 seconds, if that! The federal government here did much more than it was required to do, and at some point has to take action against anyone who acts in open defiance of the law. That's all there is to it.
