Mr. One,

I agree that the promise of cheap hardware helped MS leveredge their desktop dominance into the low-end server space. It is also clear that Linux is quickly expanding its already significant market-share in that space, which will slow (or even reverse) the growth of NT servers.

The question is... Would a loss of the server market materially affect MSFT? Anybody know what the percentages are?
I can see how this loss of control is a strategic disadvantage, because desktop features are tied more and more to cooperation on the server end, and MS competes with itself for upgrade dollars on the desktop. But is there a short term revenue risk due solely to server sales?

Curious...
