Lucent: SEC Not Probing Vendor Financing

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Communications equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. on Thursday said it does not believe the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating the company's practice of lending money to customers to enable them to buy Lucent products.

Lucent voluntarily brought some issues to the SEC's attention in November 2000, but a company spokeswoman said, "We have no reason to believe that the inquiry now includes vendor financing."

The comments follow a report in the Wall Street Journal (my comment: in other words, garbage in garbage out by the boy manipulators of SCBC & WSJ) that the SEC is broadening its investigation of practices that boost telecommunications companies' revenue.

The regulatory agency is probing revenue-boosting swaps of fiber-optic capacity by telecommunications companies, including Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE:Q - News) and the bankrupt Global Crossing Ltd. (Other OTC:GBLXQ.PK - News).
