<Do you honestly believe the hardcore rightwing activists in the GOP would nominate an African-American to run for president--especially one who is pro-choice and in favor of fixing instead of nixing affirmative action, as Powell has said he is?> Extremists would not, but I believe a majority of the Republican party could, especially in light of the mounting military risks the US will be confronted with. People will be ready to make concessions to make sure they have somebody in the WH that can deal with them. Regards, JBL
