Canal Satelite Says Files Complaint Vs Telefonica MADRID, Aug 1 (Reuter) - Canal Satelite Digital, the Canal Plus backed digital television platform in Spain, said late Thursday it was filing a complaint with the European Union Competition Commission against Telefonica de Espana . Telefonica leads the rival Via Digital platform. Canal Satelite said it was protesting at Telefonica's purchase of a 25 percent stake in Antena 3 television station and a controlling stake in its GMA subsidiary. It said the Antena 3 buy represented an abuse of Telefonica's dominant position and contravened the Treaty of Rome. Telefonica's Antena 3 purchase will give it a indirect 15 percent stake in Canal Satelite itself, as well as access to lucrative football rights. Industry analysts say the soccer rights are crucial to make the investment-heavy platforms profitable.
