Sorry, they weren't available. Proportional spacing was available, but a VERY rare feature. But there was no proportional spaced selectric ball that also had the specific superscripts until after this document was purportedly created. I'm fairly confident of this.

Are you, by any chance, an Eric Von Danniken enthusiasts?

Nope. I just had occasion, in grad school, to work on a project interfacing a selectric to an early homebrew computer, so I know a little (not a huge amount) about selectrics.
