There is no good reason for the SEC to allow any of this illegal manipulation to happen, except for the way our campaigns are financed in this country. Congress and the President want an underfunded, weak SEC. Big brokers and multinational corporations want a weak underfunded SEC and they contribute top dollar to the politicians.
The SEC cannot hold onto talented lawyers and investigators because it cannot pay. Consequently it is left to state attorneys general like Spitzer to occasionally go after the crooks.
Transparent markets indeed. Our markets are transparent as mud.
